DotNetForum FAQ

Return Policies

Q: What is your return policy for DotNetForum?

If you are not satisfied with your purchase of the DotNetForum software, you may return the software for a 100% refund within 30 days. If it's something we did wrong, please let us know so we can do better in the future. If you're not happy with our product, then we don't want your money.

Licensing Questions

Q: What is the difference between the Single Website and Multi-Website license?

The Single Website license entitles you to use DotNetForum on a single website. The Multi-Website license allows you to use DotNetForum for as many domains as you like within your organization, with the caveat that you must own all of the domains you use it on. You may not resell DotNetForum or allow companies outside of your organization to use it. If you wish to do that, you will need to purchase a VAR/ISP license

Q: Is the price a one-time fee?

Yes. You may continue using the software for as long as you follow the licensing agreement.

Q: What is the price for support and upgrades?

The first year of support and upgrades are included with your purchase. We will contact you approximately 30 days before your support agreement expires and offer you the option to renew it for another year. Annual support contracts are optional and are 20% of the original purchase price. You may continue using the software even after your support contract expires, but you will no longer receive support or new versions of the software.

If you choose not to renew a support contract within 30 days of its expiration, an upgrade license may be purchased at a cost of 40% of the original purchase price plus 20% per year or fraction thereof the maintenance fee was overdue. This means you will pay 60% of the purchase price for allowing the support contract to lapse the first year, 80% the second year, and 100% if you wish to upgrade after 3 years without a support contract.

Q: Do you have an affiliate program?

No, but if this is something you're interested in pursuing, please let us know.

Technical Questions

Q: Do I need any special programming knowledge to run DotNetForum?

You do not need to be a software developer to run DotNetForum. If you intend to purchase a source code license, then knowledge of C#, ASP.NET and SQL Server may be helpful.

Q: Is the source code available for DotNetForum?

Yes, the Developer, Multi-Website, and VAR/ISP licenses all include the source code for the software.

Q: Do you have a VB.NET version of the source code for DotNetForum?

Sorry, but we do not and there are no plans at this time to provide a VB.NET version.

Q: What version of the .NET Framework is DotNetForum written with?

DotNetForum uses the Microsoft .NET Framework v4.0. If you purchase the source code version, you will need at least Visual Studio 2010 to recompile the application.

Q: What are the server requirements for running DotNetForum?

We recommend using Windows 2008 with IIS and the .NET Framework v4.0 installed. You will also need access to a SQL Server 2008 database.

Customization Questions

Q: Will you do customizations to DotNetForum for us?

We charge $125/hour for customizations to the software, but if you need a feature that we can include in a future release then we can offer a substantially reduced consulting rate. It is in our sole discretion as to whether the feature you're asking for is something that should be included in a future release.

Q: How is the code structured to work with the database?

The DotNetForum software is divided into two projects in the VS2010 solution file. The main application is in one project, while the Data Access Layer is in another. The Data Access Layer relies entirely on the Entity Framework and LINQ to Entity for returning data from the database. Developers with no prior knowledge of the software should be able to read and understand the software with very little trouble. The code is well documented and organized.
